The Role

The Financial Services Lead will develop Block's financial services policy strategy across Block's ecosystem. As a member of the Global Policy team, you will work closely with team members across advocacy and partnerships, and will be deeply involved in driving Block's policy work across key issues at the forefront of financial services and technology policy. Top priority issues will include supporting our lending products, our ILC chartered bank, bank partnerships, fincrimes, and other FS issues.

You Will

  • Develop Block's policy positions across the issues above in partnership with product and cross-functional teams, creating advocacy messaging, and driving Block's narrative and leadership on these issues.
  • Build strategic plans for regulatory comment letters as necessary and in support of the policy strategy.
  • Serve as an external facing subject matter expert on your specific areas of focus, including in advocacy meetings alongside our GR team, on panels, or in other public forums as needed.
  • Drive regular cross-functional meetings and/or processes to support a nimble and flexible policy strategy that is responsive to incoming policy challenges, opportunities, or evolving business priorities.
  • Assist with coalition building through relationships with industry policy partners, advocacy groups, academics, etc.

You Have

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in policy work, with specific experience in financial services policy.
  • Experience managing complex policy matters, working collaboratively across teams, and advocating on behalf of issues at the intersection of financial services and technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop policy proposals and strategies, establish policy on issues which you will be responsible for, and manage and participate in regulatory comment process to improve outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; and an ability to explain complicated issues and policy positions to any audience
  • Critical thinking skills; an ability to be thinking about the strategy from all different sides and solving complex problems or roadblocks.

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
