The Role

The Global Ethics Lead will lead Block's Ethics function within the Compliance organization. You will oversee a team of Ethics professionals, supporting the development of effective ethics programs, and providing guidance on ethical behavior and expectations across the organization.  Amongst other things these include maintenance of our Ethics and Employee Conduct Policies, the Ethics Hotline and multiple training and communication programs designed to support ethical decision-making and conduct following Block’s mission. 

You will join the Block Compliance Global Policy & Governance Leadership team and work with other members of the Block Compliance Leadership including the Block Chief Compliance Officer and Regulatory Counsel team.

You Will

  • Lead the Ethics team, providing strategic vision, goals, direction and oversight.
  • Develop Block's ethics programs, policies and procedures.
  • Provide affirmative, values-based guidance on ethical behavior and expectations.
  • Optimize the visibility of the Ethics function throughout the organization and ensure understanding of its roles and responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of integrity and develop mechanisms to reward ethical conduct.
  • Enhance the efficacy of reporting channels, including testing and feedback mechanisms.
  • Strengthen ethics training programs, including feedback and accountability structures.
  • Monitor and measure ethical culture within the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with other departments, including Legal, Human Resources, and Enterprise Risk Management, to address ethics-related issues.
  • Prepare and present reports on ethics-related trends and issues to senior management and the Board of Directors

You Have:

  • 10+ years of experience in ethics, compliance, or a related field
  • 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with an active license to practice law
  • Knowledge of ethics and compliance best practices, including familiarity with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs and the U.S. Sentencing Commission’s Effective Compliance and Ethics Program Guidelines.
  • Experience advising Executive Leadership and building strong relationships to establish trust across the organization
  • Ability to develop and implement effective ethics frameworks and programs
  • Experience designing and executing risk assessments and responding to audit or regulatory exams/engagements
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and monitor organizational changes, including new processes, systems, or technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High level of integrity and ethical judgment.

  • Experience developing end-to-end compliance risk management programs
  • Industry experience working in consultancy practice, development of tools/systems to support scale and efficiency across enterprise risk or compliance risk management domains

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
