It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 50+ million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world's relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.

Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We've been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.

The Role

The Transaction Monitoring (TM) team at Cash App actively monitors for potential money laundering, fraud, and other suspicious activity across the Cash App platform. Cash App is looking for a Transaction Monitoring Investigator to perform ongoing Bank Secrecy Act & Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) transaction monitoring across all product offerings, including Bitcoin, to ensure compliance with our regulatory, payment network, and partnership requirements.

Successful TM Investigators will support the team by reviewing a high volume of transaction activity across the Cash App platform and the Bitcoin blockchain, documenting their findings with detailed case notes. This role reports directly to the Transaction Monitoring Lead and involves a significant volume of daily alerts to be completed with a high degree of accuracy.

You Will

  • Monitor the Cash App ecosystem by resolving compliance-related alerts for Bitcoin and fiat transactions, making critical decisions to protect our platform's integrity and our customers' trust.
  • Leverage your investigative instincts to detect, analyze and clearly articulate complex transactional patterns involving one or more Cash App accounts, escalating potentially suspicious activity across varying BSA/AML typologies.
  • Utilize open source intelligence (OSINT) techniques alongside traditional verification methods to build a comprehensive understanding of customer and counterparty profiles, effectively documenting and mitigating risk on the Cash App platform.
  • Focus your natural curiosity and bias for action on emerging patterns of money movement involving new and existing Cash App products. Take initiative to expand your knowledge base, share insights with teammates, and rapidly adapt to new trends in the fiat and Bitcoin space.
  • Periodically perform above-the-line and below-the-line sampling to enhance the effectiveness of our fiat and Bitcoin transaction monitoring queues.
  • Occasionally attend compliance-related seminars to stay informed about changes within the compliance industry.

You Have

  • 2+ years of experience reviewing a high volume of fiat and Bitcoin (or other cryptocurrency) activity relating to payments and peer-to-peer transactions from a BSA/AML perspective.
  • 2+ years of experience in BSA/AML transaction monitoring or SAR investigations with a financial institution or fintech company.
  • Advanced on-chain graphing skills utilizing Chainalysis or TRM Labs.
  • Deep understanding and comprehension of Bitcoin and/or other cryptocurrencies.
  • Knowledge of BSA/AML regulations, risks, and typologies.
  • Passion for Block Inc., Cash App, and a strong interest in Bitcoin.

Technologies We Use and Teach

  • Experience training other analysts and writing procedures
  • Relevant industry certifications (CAMS, CFC, CRC, CFE)
  • Experience with SQL and/or Snowflake
  • A continual learning mindset, a bias for action, and experience turning great ideas into concrete improvements through clear, compelling communication
