Ottawa-based credit union Alterna Savings was founded in 1908. Today, Alterna holds the distinction of being Ontario’s first full-service, member-owned financial institution outside Quebec. Through 40 branches across Ontario and robust digital banking channels, Alterna serves more than 210,000 members with a comprehensive suite of financial services. Alterna was one of the first credit unions to offer micro-loans through their award-winning Community Microfinance Program.
