The Role

We are seeking an Information Systems Engineer – Accounting Technology & Transformation to join our Controllership pillar, a key part of Block’s guidance function under the CFO.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of finance and technology, with a strong foundation in accounting processes and a passion for automation and innovation.

You will collaborate closely with Revenue Accounting, Corporate Accounting, and Technical Accounting teams to understand their roadmaps, identify automation opportunities, and design sustainable, scalable solutions across Oracle Fusion and integrated systems. You’ll serve as a bridge between accounting, product, systems, and engineering—bringing both strategic thinking and hands-on execution to help Block scale its financial systems in line with company growth.

Additionally, this role will be instrumental in supporting close acceleration and Record-to-Report (R2R) transformation initiatives. You will partner with accounting and technology teams to implement changes from our transformation roadmap, including:data flow optimization, automation of journal entries, intercompany enhancements, and the use of AI for reconciliations and reporting

A successful candidate will have a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to translate complex requirements into scalable solutions aligned to Block’s growth and compliance needs.

You Will

System Design & Implementation

  • Lead engineering initiatives to transform accounting processes using Oracle Fusion Finance, FAH (Fusion Accounting Hub), and  tools.
  • Apply software engineering principles to solve complex enterprise finance challenges - driving automation, data integrity and operational agility.
  • Develop integrations across Block’s products and platforms to transform raw business events into reliable, actionable insights through scalable, modern architecture. 
  • Design and implement robust monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively detect issues, respond to incidents, and conduct root cause analysis to minimize business impact.

Collaboration & Partnership

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement transformation-driven enhancements across revenue, Expenses,  intercompany, and reconciliation processes, ultimately impacting the financial close timeline. 
  • Partner with accounting teams to understand roadmaps and ensure systems are ready for product launches, compliance changes, and reporting needs.
  • Partner with product managers and TPMs for cross-functional initiatives cutting across the enterprise.

 Technical Innovation & Automation

  • Apply AI/ML for reconciliations, flux reporting, and anomaly detection.
  • Use Oracle Fusion APIs, Python programs and/or scripting to eliminate manual accounting tasks and streamline data translations/transformations.

Governance & Compliance

  • Collaborate with audit teams to ensure systems and workflows are SOX-compliant and meet internal control requirements.

  • Support statutory reporting for international entities and ensure alignment with US GAAP and other regulatory frameworks.



You Have

  • 10+ years of experience in financial systems, with deep expertise in Oracle Fusion, Fusion Accounting Hub (FAH), and accounting systems engineering

  • Strong understanding of Revenue recognition (including ASC 606),Intercompany accounting , Allocations, Multi-level consolidations
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS reporting requirements for global entities

  • Familiarity with: Subledger-to-GL data flows,Business process configurations and Oracle Fusion best practices

  • Ability to simplify complex system behavior for accounting stakeholders

  • Experience applying software engineering principles to solve complex enterprise finance challenges - driving automation, data integrity and operational agility. 
  • Experience developing integrations across products and platforms to transform raw business events into reliable, actionable insights through scalable, modern architecture.

  • Demonstrated impact in close acceleration or financial transformation initiatives (e.g., reducing close timelines, automating reconciliations, modernizing intercompany workflows)

  • A passion for continuous learning and a growth-oriented mindset—comfortable stepping outside fixed role definitions
  • Must have an AI-first mindset, with demonstrated experience using tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, or similar AI platforms—and a strong willingness to learn and apply Block’s internal AI capabilities to enhance financial systems and processes.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with EPM tools, Blackline, EDM, or other modern accounting solutions.

  • Comfort working hands-on with Python scripts, REST APIs, and exploring new SaaS functionalities.

  • Experience with Slack bots, automation templates, or other tools used for financial workflow automation.

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
