Senior Product Manager, Square Credit Card

Remote
Bay Area, CA, US
Req ID: R0005822
Posted Date: 02/06/26

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

The Team

Square Banking has grown into the largest online SMB lender in America by rewriting the rules of small business credit. While traditional banks relied on outdated models that locked out millions of businesses, we built something different – leveraging real-time payments data, cash flow insights, and deep seller relationships to unlock capital for the restaurants, coffee shops, food trucks, salons, and retailers that power our communities.

Now, we’re bringing that same energy to our credit card and broader banking products. We're not building another corporate card – we're building the credit card franchise purpose-built for real-world businesses, designed around inventory cycles, tip management, supplier payments, and seasonal swings. Business Credit Cards that understand a restaurant's Friday night is different from a salon's Tuesday morning. Credit Cards that work the way these businesses actually operate.

The Role

As Senior Product Manager, you will shape the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the core of this credit card product: the intersection of automation, expense management, cardholder value, and card economics.

You will be responsible for leading a dedicated team of engineers and designers to build a market leading credit card product, owning a set of key customer and & business problems. You will drive the end-to-end product vision, strategy, and execution for your domain in order to meet ambitious company goals.

You'll define how businesses track and control spending, how they earn and redeem rewards, and how the financial mechanics of the card (interchange, float, pricing, and incentives) work together to create a market-leading product.

This is not a "manage the roadmap" role. This is a "build the future" role.

We're looking for someone who is energized by ambiguity, deeply curious about the frontier of AI in financial services, and passionate about building products that elegantly balance technical depth with intuitive user experiences.

If you're excited about reimagining what a business credit card can be in an AI native world, and owning both the customer experience and the P&L behind it, this is the role.

You Will

  • Own and set the multi-year vision for the card's spend, rewards, and economic systems with ambitions to build a category-defining credit card for small business owners
  • Define the product strategy and roadmap for expense and spend management features, including: AI-powered expense categorization, receipt capture and matching, spend controls and limits, vendor management, and intelligent spending insights
  • Drive high-velocity execution with a world-class team of engineers and designers, balancing principled intuition with data-driven decision making
  • Ship innovative, AI-native features that unlock expense management use cases - think intelligent spend categorization, proactive cash-flow insights, and personalized spending recommendations
  • Marry customer insights with technical possibilities, crafting intuitive user experiences that abstract away complexity while building features rooted in the real needs of food & beverage and retail operators
  • Prototype rapidly using modern AI tools to accelerate the product development lifecycle and fast-forward to production-ready products
  • Deeply understand product performance by analyzing adoption funnels, feature usage, integration health, and customer feedback. Be fluent in data and experimentation, and understand when the answer cannot be found in the data
  • Understand and own the full P&L of your features: development costs, third-party integration costs, interchange, funding costs, credit performance, and the value they drive in customer retention, spend volume, and contribution margin
  • Operate with end-to-end ownership – from concept through launch through ongoing performance

You Have

  • Minimum 8+ years of product management experience, preferably in credit cards, fintech, or payments industries
  • Strong customer empathy and design thinking. Curiosity, empathy, and an irresistible urge to go talk to Square's customers to hear firsthand what they need from us
  • Passion for AI in financial services, shown through hands-on building, prototyping, or staying current on research and tools
  • Fluency with modern prototyping tools (e.g. Cursor, Bolt, Claude Code) and comfort with design/collaboration environments like Figma
  • Strong product judgment and range, from core credit economics to customer experience, rewards design, and software-driven differentiation. Impeccable product intuition combined with high numeracy and a bias to data-driven action
  • Fluency in data and experimentation, and understanding when the answer cannot be found in the data
  • A track record of delivering high-impact credit products that drive measurable outcomes in activation, spend, retention, and customer lifetime value
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams toward ambitious goals with urgency and agency
  • Ability to translate between technical and non-technical audiences, synthesizing complex systems into compelling narratives
  • Comfort operating at both strategic altitude and operational depth
  • A systems-level mindset with the ability to connect underwriting models, card economics, rewards structures, and embedded software features into a unified customer experience
