Closing the Technology Access Gap for Students: Inside Block’s Collaboration with Revivn

Closing the Technology Access Gap for Students: Inside Block’s Collaboration with Revivn

For students, access to a reliable computer is often the starting point for participating in both the educational system and the modern economy. From completing assignments to building digital skills and managing money online, technology is critical but not always accessible.

At Block, expanding access to the financial system includes helping ensure the next generation has the tools they need to participate in it. Through our collaboration with Revivn, we are extending the lifecycle of our hardware and helping more devices reach students and communities that can benefit from them.

In 2025, Block worked with Revivn to share nearly 4,000 laptops across 21 locations. More than 3,500 of those devices were repurposed, refurbished for continued use or prepared for donation, helping put functional technology back into the hands of people who need it.

As part of our ongoing work together, Block is supporting Revivn to help distribute devices through community organizations working directly with students. So far, Block’s financial resourcing and support have been allocated to partners including Trajectory of Hope in Los Angeles, 826NYC in New York City, and Washington D.C., Oakland Public Education Fund, and Enterprise for Youth in San Francisco. Spread out across the country, these organizations work closely with students to support learning, mentorship, and access to opportunities, making them critical partners in ensuring devices reach those who need them most.

As more aspects of education and financial life move online, from submitting assignments to learning how to manage money, access to technology is closely tied to access to opportunity. By helping put devices into the hands of students, we can support the development of the digital and financial skills that are increasingly required to participate in the economy. Extending the life of existing hardware also helps reduce waste and lowers the environmental impact of producing new devices.

Block is committed to expanding access and reducing barriers for the next generation, whether through our products or through collaborations like Revivn that help ensure more students have the tools they need to participate in the economy.
