At Cash App, we’re committed to empowering teens to save, invest, and manage money in an environment that is designed around trust and safety. We’re continuously researching and launching new protections and tools to support this, and today, we’re sharing a new safety feature that builds on our existing safeguards for teen users: Approved P2P Contacts.

For many teens, peer-to-peer payments such as receiving allowances from their parents, being paid for household chores, or reimbursing friends for group activities are their first step into money management. Parents often want to give their kids the ability to exchange payments with peers, but are looking for more oversight on P2P activity. Now, parents can select who their teen can send and receive payments with through an approved contacts list, giving them more visibility into their teen’s financial activity.

Here’s how it works:

As a Sponsor for a teen’s account, parents and guardians* (Sponsors) can choose to restrict the people that their teen can exchange payments with to an approved contact list, preventing them from exchanging P2P payments with strangers. And because teen accounts are private by default, they will not be discoverable on Cash App. If someone outside the approved list attempts to pay the teen—or if the teen tries to pay someone not on the list—the payment is paused and the Sponsor is asked to review it.

When a Sponsor approves a payment from a new account, they'll be prompted to add that account to their teen's approved list, making it easy for families to build their trusted network. Protections like parent approved contacts can help foster safer, more intentional interactions.

In addition, regardless of whether or not Approved Contacts are enabled, Cash App utilizes sophisticated AI technology including advanced machine learning systems to monitor account activity 24/7. Cash App Families accounts allow parents and guardians* (Sponsors) to oversee all transactional activity, block and report other users on behalf of their teen, control which features their teen has access to, and more.

Financial independence is an important part of every teen's journey to adulthood. With approved contacts, Cash App is making that journey safer while respecting the critical role parents play in guiding their teens' financial decisions. As we continue to evolve our teen safety features, we remain dedicated to balancing safety with accessibility, ensuring that Cash App remains a trusted platform for families to manage their money together.
