The Bitcoin Classic (TBC) is making its own playbook for financial education. The Discovery Grant will help it get closer to its goal.

Highlights from the 2022 TBC tournament in Rucker Park, Harlem, NY.

We created the Discovery Grant (formerly known as the Bitcoin Endowment) to help support nonprofit organizations working to offer financial education to historically under-resourced groups.

Now one of the first recipients, The Bitcoin Classic (TBC), is receiving the grant for a second time. A community initiative combining basketball with bitcoin and blockchain education, TBC perfectly encapsulates the creative, enterprising spirit of the grant. The next TBC tournament tips off in Atlanta June 23–24.

The Bitcoin Classic (TBC) is a single-elimination basketball tournament that brings adult teams across the country together throughout the year to compete for a bitcoin-funded prize. Between games, community leaders and industry experts hold court, leading learning sessions on bitcoin and blockchain technology. Aligning with Block, Inc.’s (formerly Square, Inc.) purpose of economic empowerment, the tournament advocates for financial education, creating new opportunities for both players and fans to gain understanding and share their experiences.

Apply for the Discovery Grant

The Discovery Grant supports nonprofit organizations working towards one aspect of our purpose: making financial education — fiat and/or bitcoin — open and available to all.

Creativity is key — we look for programs that defy tradition, invite innovation, and bring people together.

We accept applications on a rolling basis, so it’s always a good time to apply. Even if you’re hesitant, shoot your shot — we want to hear what you’re up to. Education and open access are fundamental to Block’s purpose of economic empowerment. And elevating organizations working towards the same goal can help us all get there.
