New integration brings Square's trusted commerce technology to Tidal, making it simple for independent artists to price, sell, and get paid for their original music
Tidal, the artist-first music platform, today announced the launch of Direct-to-Fan Sales powered by Square processing. Starting today, independent artists in the United States can sell tracks or albums directly to their fans using Tidal Upload. Artists can set their pricing for their work, and receive fast, secure payments directly into their Square account while keeping 90% of each sale before payment processing fees and applicable taxes. Fans can purchase and download tracks even without a paid Tidal subscription.
Tidal’s Direct-to-Fan Sales helps independent artists monetize their original music beyond streaming revenue. Artists can set a price for their uploaded work and create a Square account in minutes, allowing them to track payouts securely through the Square Dashboard. Square's trusted commerce platform handles the entire payments experience from artist onboarding and identity verification to payout processing. Built on Block's financial ecosystem, the integration brings together Tidal and Square to provide artists with trusted payments processing, unified sales tracking, and a commerce identity layer that connects transactions to fan relationships.
“Independent artists today need more than just places to stream music — we need tools that help us build real businesses around our art,” said up-and-coming soul artist Felix Ames. “What excites me about the Square and Tidal integration is that it creates more flexibility for independent artists like me to connect directly with fans, sell in new ways, and grow sustainably on our own terms. That kind of infrastructure can genuinely change what independence looks like for artists coming up right now.”
Fans can explore Tidal Upload tracks for sale by previewing 30-second track clips. Music is available for purchase with a debit card, credit card, Cash App Pay, or Apple Pay. After purchasing, fans can stream the work immediately or download the files to their Tidal app or on another listening device.
"Artists are small businesses, too," says Robert Andersen, Tidal Lead at Block. "Direct-to-Fan Sales gives independent artists full control over how they price and package up their music, built on Tidal’s high-fidelity music platform and Square’s powerful financial ecosystem. Connecting Tidal and Square opens the door to more valuable financial tools for artists, including selling merch or ticketing for live events.”
Direct-to-Fan Sales is available on the Tidal app for iOS, web, and desktop – with Android coming soon. Artists must be 18+, U.S.-based, and own all the rights to the content they sell. Fans must be based in the U.S. to buy Tidal Upload tracks or albums. Additional markets are coming soon for both artists and their fans.
