Cash App actively engages with the broader child safety ecosystem, including law enforcement, to help prevent and combat online exploitation. To stay ahead of evolving threats, our staff undergoes continuous, specialized training — including direct instruction from frontline law enforcement and survivors with lived experience — to recognize emerging trends in these crimes.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC)'s CyberTipline serves as the nation’s centralized platform for reporting suspected child sexual exploitation. In 2023 alone, it received over 36 million reports of suspected abuse. These reports are made available to law enforcement officers trained to investigate crimes against children.
Cash App is dedicated to ensuring our CyberTipline reports are comprehensive and actionable to support law enforcement investigations. We proactively communicate with officers handling these cases nationwide, creating a feedback loop to improve the quality and utility of our reports. As of October 2024, beyond our existing regulatory reporting obligations, Cash App reports suspected instances of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), online enticement (including financial sextortion), and child sex trafficking to the CyberTipline. We leverage a combination of transaction monitoring, advanced machine learning models, and blockchain analysis tools to detect and prevent bad actors from misusing our platform.
In just the first five months of reporting, Cash App has submitted an average of 450 reports per month to the CyberTipline. This underscores our commitment to identifying and escalating potential threats — ensuring that bad actors are not only blocked from using our platform but also brought to the attention of law enforcement before they can cause further harm.
We believe that protecting children is a shared responsibility, and we remain steadfast in our efforts to combat exploitation and create a safer digital environment for all.
