Optus Bank was built upon the foundation created 100 years ago by the visionary Black leaders who established Victory Savings and Loan in 1921. It was founded as South Carolina’s only Black-owned bank, which is a distinction it still holds today. The founders’ goal was to provide access to capital to individuals and businesses excluded from the banking system. That main goal has remained the same — to ensure that wealth-building is not just for the wealthy. In 2019, Victory changed its name to Optus Bank, and in 2020 hit an all-time record of profitability.
